Buying And Maintenance Tips For Weekend Backpacks
By Editor | June 21, 2009
Buying Tips
Cordura is the most durable pack fabric, but it is also the most heaviest and most water absorbent. Nylon is lighter, sheds snow and repel water better, but is less durable.
Make sure you test the zippers, they should run smoothly with no snags. Strap attachment points should be reinforced with lots of stitching.
A clean design with little external pockets will endure abuses of travelling much better. In Alpine environment patches of abrasion resistant Hypalon or Cordura will add more years to your weekend backpack.
Maintenance Tips
Remember to help your pack last longer, take along a waterproof rain cover that fits over top. They’re cheap and lightweight, but will protect your pack-and the contents-from rain, dirt and the abuses of airline travel.
