Hiking Boots Buying and Maintenance Tips
By Editor | March 16, 2009
Find a store with all experienced and knowledgeable boot fitter and bring your own hiking socks. Shop at the end of the day when your feet are swollen like they will he on the trail. Remember your feet are like pendulums, so a few extra ounces of swing weight adds a lot of effort over a long trail. Off-the-shelf footbeds are good, but heat mouldable designs are even better. Both are far better than the flimsy things most manufacturers include in their boots.
Remember, before you go near a trail with your new boots, treat them with leather or fabric protector. This way you’ll seal out dirt and dust before they can clog the breathable pores or start to wear at the seams.
