Will I Be On The Hook Financially If I Need A Mountain Rescue?
By Editor | June 13, 2008
If you get hurt while outdoors in a national park or reserve, you bet you will be responsible financially or any medical treatment or rescue that you will require. To the tune of up to $20,000 just for the rescue helicopter.
Fortunately, it’s easy to get good insurance. One way is to join the American Alpine Club. With a $75 membership, you’re covered for any outdoor rescue worldwide from the trailhead up to 19,000 feet (for expeditions higher up, a $9-a-day premium is available).
Not to mention the other benefits: cool mountain-related events and copies of The American Alpine Journal and Accidents in North American Mountaineering which you could write for if you wind up needing that rescue.
